One dark, autumnal evening, a friend and I were walking home after a meeting in town. We lived in a shared house at the top of Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury.

As we reached the top of the hill, a glowing green sphere of light flew over our greenorbheads from behind us. About the size of a football, it hovered in front of us at eye level about ten feet away. It gave out a friendly, happy feeling, as if it was playfully saying ‘hello!’ After a few moments, it vanished with a slight pop.

We turned to each other wide eyed and gasping, ‘did you see that?!’ Once indoors, we were bubbling over about it. Someone suggested we go into separate rooms and write a detailed account of what we saw. That made it clear we’d both seen exactly the same thing. But for us, no proof was necessary. We knew it was real.

In his Earth Lights books, Paul Devereux theorises that orbs of light may come from natural geographic and atmospheric effects. However, he does also say that they “often appear to possess minds of their own, and respond to human thought in an almost playful manner.”

Long ago, English people called orbs of light will-o-the-wisps or fairy lights. Legends about them come from all over the world. Most cultures think they could be fae beings, witches or spirits of the dead. Some folklore said they showed people the way to hidden treasure. More often, they were feared as dangerous tricksters. Following them could mean death by drowning in a swamp or getting lost in the forest.

These days more positive stories about orbs are emerging. When Sue (not her real name) moved to Glastonbury, she enjoyed the therapies, talks and workshops here. Then a high-flying friend from her earlier life came to visit. While chatting in the garden, she poured cold water over Sue’s new joys. Glumly, Sue began to agree with her. Just then, mysterious little white lights floated out of a tall tree. They were both spellbound, and the cynicism crept quietly away.

When crop circles started appearing, researchers sat up all night watching the fields in the hope of catching a formation being made. Those vigils were notoriously unsuccessful, except for one effect – the appearance of orbs of light.

In his book The Circle Makers, Andrew Collins says, ‘Many earth lights, shining spheres and blatant UFOs have been reported either during or after the formation of crop circles, some in broad daylight’.

a_avebury-sunset-bannerPeople also saw orbs around Avebury and Silbury Hill well before the first crop formations appeared. In Avebury in 1978, Heather Peak-Garland took her dog for a walk at 10.00 pm. When she reached the ancient stones, she saw a huge yellow ball of light. At first, she thought it was the full moon. Then she realised it was much closer than that, and was drifting gently along. Once inside the stone circle, it stopped. Then, just like the green one that I saw, it blinked out.

The crop circle connection is strong, however. In 1990, photographer Steve Alexander was taking pictures from a helicopter of two new formations near Milk Hill in Wiltshire. Then he noticed a shiny ball of light flitting around a nearby field. Wondering what it could be, he followed it with his video camera. He noticed that a tractor working in that field stopped when the orb got near it.

crop-circle-mayan-1The tractor driver later told Steve he’d seen a sphere of light as big as a beach ball floating overhead. As it passed over him, his engine cut out. He’d had no idea that Steve was filming him. When he told his boss and friends about this experience, they just laughed at him.

A full account and video of this event is at this link: http://temporarytemples.co.uk/what-are-crop-circles/the-milk-hill-ufo-footage

In 1996, the plot thickened when a large crop circle appeared near the iron-age hill fort called Oliver’s Castle, near Devizes. Next day, a young man called John Wheyleigh pitched up at the social mecca of the croppie world – the Barge Inn, near Alton Barnes. He announced that he’d just filmed two orbs of light making that formation. You can see his film at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcLcnrpxmUg

John let everyone take copies of his film to circulate freely among the The-Barge-Inn-on-the-Canalcommunity. Technicians analysed the film and declared it free of fakery. No one in the croppie world had ever got anything as good as this. They decided it was too good to be true, and had to be a fake.

John Wheyleigh then disappeared. A year later, someone calling himself John Wabe appeared on the scene. He said he was the real John Wheyleigh, and that he’d faked the whole thing. However, after some careful investigation, his claim turned out to be nonsense. By then, the croppie world was rife with rumours and speculation about what was really going on.

Blithely unaffected by any of that, the orbs continue to float around us in ever-increasing numbers. Many people are now seeing them in their homes and gardens. They seem happy to be around us. Perhaps they are here simply to lighten us up – and have some fun creating mysteries along the way.

Maybe it began with the Romans and their famous straight roads. The modeImagern view of time is as a road which leads steadily towards whatever people think ‘Rome’ might be. Out of this came the theory of evolution, now widely accepted as the new foundation of modern belief. However, the linear view of time is an illusion – a mirage. Time doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in cycles.

Those who live close to the earth understand this in their bones. That’s because nature is constantly putting on a dramatic performance to show them exactly how life and time really works. At the end of each day, the sun seems to die – and yet each morning it rises again. In winter, the earth itself looks dead. Nevertheless, every year the new life of spring faithfully returns – and the whole cycle begins again.

By playing close attention to the stars, our ancestors traced even bigger patterns than that. These turned out to be like mega-versions of the annual seasons. This knowledge helps us in many ways. By understanding the movements of the heavens, we know when to plant and when to reap – in both practical and metaphorical ways. Knowing how the huge cycles of the ages work, we can adjust and plan accordingly.

The great astrological year is one of those cycles. It marks the 25,600 years that it takes for the earth’s axis to rotate in a complete circle around the North Star.

Our north star changes over time. At the moment, it’s Polaris in Ursa Major. You can see it twinkling at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper. In 3,000BC, the North Star was Thuban (Alpha Draconis) in the constellation of Draco the Dragon. The builders of the Great Pyramid aligned it to Thuban as true north. One of the open shafts pointed straight to Thuban, and another to Orion.

In about 3,200 years’ time, our next north star will be Gamma Cephi in the constellation of Cepheus. The Arab name for Gamma Cephi means ‘the shepherd’. Interestingly, in 1988 astronomers discovered the first earth-like planet in orbit around this star.

ImageIn about 13,000 years’ time, our north star will once again be Vega (Alpha Lyrae) in the constellation of Lyra. Vega is one of the brightest stars in the night sky. The high priests of Ancient Egypt timed the death rituals of pharoahs to coincide with the movement of Vega through the skies. 25,600 years hence, when we’ve come full circle, Polaris will be back in place again as our north star.

Astrologers say that the planets of our solar system affect our lives. I’ve seen how that works too many times to be skeptical about it. It makes me wonder if the Pole Star might also affect us in some way. If so, I have a sneaky feeling that Vega is somehow more beneficent than Polaris.

The 25,600-year cycle consists of 12 astrological ages of just over 2,000 years each. Each age brings in new ways of thinking and being. For example, the Age of Aries, from about 2,500BC to 300BC was a time of aggressive conquest. It saw the expansion of the great Persian, Chinese, Greek and Roman empires.

The shift from the Age of Aries to Pisces saw the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of a new religious outlook. Wars waged on, but they were more often about beliefs and ideals. Neptune ruled the Age of Pisces, so this has been a time of mysticism and spirituality – but also of deception and illusion.

The sign for the Age of Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions. Underwater is the archetypal symbol of the unconscious. The two fish tied together, but pointed different ways, suggests unconscious forces with opposing agendas.

We are currently in the process of leaving the Age of Pisces and preparing to enter the Age of Aquarius. The symbol for the Age of Aquarius is a human pouring water from a great jug. This suggests that in the Age to come, the powerful waters of the unconscious will no longer be a source of illusion and confusion. Instead, people will start using them in more conscious and beneficial ways.

Ancient Indian writings spoke of even greater ages – the four yugas:

Kali Yuga: the Age of Iron – the darkest and most difficult of times.
Dwapara Yuga: the Age of Bronze – the time of light returning to the world.
Treta Yuga: the Age of Silver – when consciousness begins to truly flower again.
Satya Yuga: the Age of Gold – a time of enlightenment, peace and plenty.

For a long time Indian scholars thought the yugas were of different lengths, with the Kali Yuga the shortest and the Satya Yuga the longest. However, recent studies have found that ancient writings said the yugas are all about 12,000 years long. All agree, however, that we are now at the end of the terrible Kali Yuga – the Age of Iron. There’s an excellent in-depth article about this by Bibhu Dev Misra at this link: http://www.grahamhancock.com/forum/DMisraB6.php

The yugas all go through ascending and descending cycles. The ascending cycles are like the first half of our year, from the winter to the summer solstice, when the light is increasing. The descending cycles are like the second half of our year, from the summer to the winter solstice, when the light is decreasing.

ImageSince 676BC, we’ve been in the ascending stage of the Kali Yuga – a time in which conditions and consciousness have been making slow but steady improvements.

Between each Yuga, there are transitional periods of about 300 years. During those times, the old ways fall apart to make way for the new. This process is often marked with the fall of civilisations and dramatic earth changes – sometimes more cataclysmic than others.

The transitional period from the Iron Age to the more benign Bronze Age will begin in 2025. From then on, for about 300 years the out-dated structures of our world will start breaking down to either transform or disappear. Because we’re on an ascending cycle, and moving towards a better age, there will be many signs of new hope. It’ll be like moving from winter towards spring. Ancient Indian writings say that during these transitional times, the Seven Rishis (sages) always come to guide the birth of the new age.

Around the year 2325, the earth will enter the Dwapara Yuga, or Age of Bronze. After that comes the even better Treta Yuga, or Silver Age. Many thousand years hence, the earth will return once again to the high summer of the Satya Yuga – the Golden Age.

Ancient Mayan calendars describe similar great cycles. The Mayans had a vast and intricate knowledge of the workings of time. They had something like 20 different calendars, each one for a specific purpose. The two we know most about are the Short Count – the Tzolk’in – and the Long Count.

The Short Count was a 260-day calendar based on the cycles of the Pleiades. The Mayans called this star cluster ‘the heart of heaven’ in their holy book, the Popul Vuh. The purpose of the Tzolk’in was to know the different character of each day, so they could plan their activities accordingly.

They assigned each day a symbol to represent its inner nature. These could be animals such as the jaguar, owl or snake; symbolic objects like jade, a net or a knife; and larger forces of nature such as earthquakes, rain or the planet Venus.

The Long Count is the Mayan Calendar most people know about because it ended with the year 2012. This simply means that date was the end of the Age of the Fourth Sun, and the beginning of the Fifth (or Sixth according to some writers).

The Mayan long count calendar began with the ‘birth of Venus’. Venus and the Pleiades were important to them. They based many of their calendar calculations on the patterns those cosmic bodies traced in the heavens.

The Sumerians and Ancient Egyptians also knew about the great ages. In fact, this knowledge may originally have come from the Sumerians. They were a strange race of people. They seemed to come from nowhere, speaking a language completely unlike any other, and bringing all kinds of advanced knowledge with them. This is why many people wonder if they might have been ETs or the remnants of an older, lost civilisation.

ImageWhoever they were, we owe a lot to them. We still live within the Sumerian system of 60-minute hours and 24-hour days. We can also thank them for the custom of having a day off work every week. Maybe they were the original time lords, bequeathing us their knowledge of the many interweaving cycles of time.

Like the Indian Yugas, the Mayan Ages of the Sun also have their sub-divisions into specific phases. Each Age has five Worlds within it, of about 1,170 years. We’ve just been through The World of the Storm, which lasted from 843 to the end of 2012.

A further sub-division of the World of the Storm was The Valley of Nine Hells. This began about 500 years ago, when Hernando Cortez invaded Mexico and destroyed their civilisation. We left the Nine Hells in 1987, which was widely celebrated as the year of Harmonic Convergence.

In 2013, we entered the first World of the next Mayan Age of the Sun. This is the Yellow World of Completion. Similar to the Indian transitional periods between each great Yuga, this is a time when the old ways will come to an end. It’s a time for individuals to complete whatever unfinished business they have left over from the previous great age, so they can move more freely into the better worlds that lie ahead.

Understanding these huge cycles of time gives us a new perspective. We can see the earth as part of a giant cosmic dance with dance partners that come from far beyond our solar system.Considering the great sweep of the ages, our individual lives look so brief and fleeting. This however, is another illusion. In fact, we are eternal spirits who experience many lifetimes and can never die. Our long reincarnational journey may go through similar seasonal cycles – wintry lives of difficulty moving into easier, summery lives. As the old saying goes, ‘as above, so below’

ImagePtolomy said that when you know about the great cycles of the stars, it gives you inner peace. It provides a higher perspective and a more cosmically centred consciousness. Thinking of the earth as the centre of the universe, with everything revolving around it, is how infants see themselves. It now feels good to know that our world could be one of squillions of others, and is an integral part of the giant cosmic wheels of time. The full benefits of this knowledge are wonders waiting for discovery in the exciting new worlds that now lie ahead for us.

For centuries people have reported seeing all kinds of other-worldly phenomena around Glastonbury Tor.

Some say that the elves and fairies people used to see were really ETs all along. So it’s hardly surprising that in recent years there have been UFO sightings from its slopes.

ImageHere are two accounts from people I know well enough to know they’re telling the truth. To protect their privacy, all the names in this article are pseudonyms.

‘There was a special astrological formation in the sky, which made a six-pointed star. So four of us decided to see it from Glastonbury Tor’ Jenny told me.

‘We were driving from Cornwall. As we got near the Tor, we suddenly saw this thing zig-zagging across the sky. It was a white light, and going really fast.

‘As we looked, we could see that it was a triangular shape. It had three lights – one at each corner. It came to the top of the car and hovered very low above us. After a while it lifted up and went.

‘Then we were on the Tor that night. There were about ten other people there. And we saw another UFO! It was a white light zig-zagging really fast. We saw it from the Tor and so did all those other people who were there. We took pictures as well, but they came out as just lights.’

While that was relatively straightforward, the next account goes into rather deeper waters.

‘This happened when I was on holiday in Glastonbury, at a healing centre,’ said Brenda. ‘One of the chaps there – Mike – had become a good friend. We used to take the dogs for walks in the evening. But the night this happened, he said, “let’s just go for a walk – don’t let’s take the dogs. I feel that something special’s going to happen, and it’s my last night.”

‘So we donned our raincoats and took an umbrella because it had been a wet day. It was still very cloudy and dark. We kept to the road – the Tor was too muddy to walk up.

‘We got to a gate that looks over a field, and just stood there, looking over this gate at the Tor. It looked like a great big magic majestic thing standing there.

‘And while standing there, my head felt funny. I went all wobbly and dizzy. I wondered what was going on. But the feeling passed after a bit.

‘It was a really dark night and the clouds were heavy with rain. We were looking up at the sky – don’t know how long for. All of a sudden there was a clear patch in the clouds. And I saw it! There were about five lights in a circle.

‘I said to Mike, ‘Look up! There it is! Can you see it?’

‘And he caught sight of it as well. We danced up and down like two kids, watching these lights move across the sky. Then they went into the clouds and vanished.

‘I was so excited! I said, “Gee, we’ve seen them, we’ve seen them!”

‘We still kept on looking. One bright light, like a star, moved diagonally across the sky.

‘Then all of a sudden there were two whirling lights. They were two spaceships that came out of the clouds. There was a blue light around them. They each had a circle of about ten lights that shone down.

‘We watched them go across the sky. They went into the clouds, but we could still see their lights through the clouds.

‘After that, there was a twirling light. It came out of the blue of the sky, moved across, and went. After that, the sky was one dark cloud again.

Image‘Mike and I were jumping up and down and hugging each other like kids. It was so wonderful!

‘He said, “I still think we’re going to see something else.”

‘I said, ‘Don’t be so greedy – we’ve seen about five now. Come on, let’s start to wander back.’

‘We wandered back down and came again to the gate where we’d stood and looked the first time. And as we stood there he said, “I KNOW we’re going to see something else!”

‘And then something very strange happened. The sky had been completely dark – then it was as if somebody had pulled the clouds back like a big curtain. We were suddenly looking at a magnificent blue sky.

‘There was a feeling in the air that’s hard to describe. It was like a soft, gentle hum. Almost like the “Om” – but really soft. There was an incredible feeling of love. I felt enveloped by it. It was awesome, just being in that energy.

‘I looked up at the top of the Tor and hanging over the Tor was this filmy kind of cloud. It was quite large. I said, “You know – I think that’s a ship up there.”

‘We just stood and looked at this lightship. We both remarked on this cosmic feeling of love that we felt. It was so exquisite it was hard to put into words.

‘Then all of a sudden the feeling left us and the clouds quickly came back into place. We just stood there, silent. It had all been so incredible. The sky had been impossibly blue for that time of night. We realised that we’d just been shown another reality.’

Brenda agreed to be regressed to see if we could find out anything else about that experience in her unconscious memories.

‘I’m standing by the gate, the first time we were there. I’m feeling dizzy and strange,’ said Brenda. “There are five or six golden balls of light around me. They are activating things in me – at the base of my head, and the top of my spine.

‘I think they’ve taken out a blockage that prevented me from being able to see them up until then. One of these lights is blending in some way with me. They are activating something. (Long pause).

‘I’m back at the gate the second time we were there…

‘I’ve now whooshed through a tunnel. I wasn’t aware of going through this tunnel at the time. There’s an energy around me. The feeling of love is all around me.

Image ‘I’m on their spacecraft – their light ship. There are lots of them here. They speak to me telepathically. They say “You are always with us. And we will soon be with you in great numbers.”

After the regression, Brenda explained as much as she could about the experience.

‘The spacecraft is made up of energy – several different energy fields. There’s no structure in the way we know structure. But it’s contained. It has edges. It doesn’t spill out – it has a shape.

‘It also has intelligence that you can converse with telepathically. It’s very soft and gentle. Very loving. It encompasses you in itself. It’s a part of you really. That’s the best way I can describe it. This is a very new experience for me. It’s difficult to put into words.’

Next day, Brenda said she hadn’t been able to sleep most of the night. As she lay there she’d felt explanations about the nature of the light vehicle pouring into her head. This became so insistent that at 1.00am she finally got up and wrote it all down.

These are some of the notes Brenda made:
You can’t go into the higher vibrational reality while in the denser form of 3D. You can travel into it with the energy of your thought. Thought travels in a finer energy form.

Level 1: Third dimension. The physical world is surrounded by an auric field. That is surrounded by what we call space. But there’s no such thing as space. It’s all energy in a lighter form. We take this energy and use thought to create things and give them form.

Level 2: A finer dimension. This is where we see the space craft in the sky.

Level 3: Even finer energy. The form is hardly noticeable from its surroundings, the energy is so refined. To perceive this, our thought has to be at the same refined level.

It seems that what we call UFOs can be physically real; and yet at the same time they also show signs of belonging to another dimension of reality. To our way of thinking, this is a puzzle and a paradox . I’m sure that as we figure this out,  it’ll mean a quantum leap forward in our understanding of the nature of reality.
